Voice, data and image (VDI) network installation: your electrical protection is essential

Voice, data and image (VDI) network installation: your electrical protection is essential

VDI or Voice, Data, Image networks are frequently installed in tertiary buildings of varying sizes and also in most of our homes. They allow the connection between different telecommunication tools for the telephone, a television, a multimedia device... It is thus in a more global way the grouping point of communication exchanges of data-processing equipment, multimedia and telephone.

The VDI environment and its constraints

VDI: need for a continuous power supply

A V.D.I. network is composed of various essential elements: a communication cabinet or 6/9U patch bay in which we find power cables, RJ45 plugs, a UPS, optical panels, and electrical strips.

Multiple network interactions

Also included are network assets: switches, servers, NAS, infrastructure... and an internet box. All of this forms a sensitive electrical and electronic environment that must be continuously and permanently powered. Indeed, multiple network interactions take place, multiple data transmissions take place and the connected equipment must receive a permanent quality electrical current, without interruption.

Protect your V.D.I. installation with a UPS

The V.D.I. installation must ensure that the infrastructure is durable and evolving by taking into account new practices and numerous interdependencies. Equipping yourself with a UPS allows you to ensure sufficient electrical protection of your equipment in the event of micro cuts, voltage variations/peaks or even a power cut.

Efficiency gains

You will be more serene when managing your network infrastructure and you will ensure service continuity of the connected equipment. The UPS takes over with its battery in the event of a power cut and remains an essential tool for greater serenity and security in the long term.

Where should the UPS fit in a rack?

In a standard rack, one of the challenges is to optimize the space in order to promote the extraction of hot air. Taking into account the presence of multiple active equipment and servers that promote the generation of heat, it is useful to have an optimal ventilation system with a permanently cooled ambient temperature, particularly at the level of the general distribution frame. The UPS should therefore be placed preferably in the lower part of the rack, leaving a free space of about 20cm around the UPS, otherwise there is a risk of overheating or even fire.

Depending on the power of the connected equipment, we can propose for smaller environments our On Line Performance technology UPS, which provide sufficient electrical protection for mini racks or server racks in SMEs. For larger structures, we recommend our On Line Double Conversion range, which provides better performance and electrical protection for higher power requirements.
